A journalist in Russia before emigrating to South Florida in 1979, Iosilevich began working stateside as an English-as-a-second-language teacher. When her school fell victim to budget cuts, Iosilevich got a job as a makeup artist with Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbour and, later, Sephora in Boca Raton.
