Lulu’s Cupcakes located at 7607 E. McDowell Road in Scottsdale, Arizona, was started by a speech pathologist, Danielle Lowe, who decided to try her hand at cupcakes. (This is not to be confused with the apparently well-known Boston (North End) bakery Lulu’s Bake Shoppe, which we’ll have some photos from soon.)

Q: How did you come up with your outrageous cupcake names, like Mood Elevator (coffee buttercream on chocolate cake), Chocoschnitzel (German chocolate cake) and the racy D-Cupcake daily specials?
A: A lot of hilarious brainstorming sessions with family and friends.
Q: Your menu says, “Call ahead and we’ll make your favorite flavors. Orders must be placed by blah blah blah . . . .” What time is that, exactly?
A: All special orders vary on lead time. Thus, we encourage customers to call, even if it is last minute.
